something old

an old door in Door County, WI

New things are shiny, attractive and fun. Old things can be dull and passé, but more often, they can surprise with resonance; if it’s something you’ve seen or loved in the past, something old can be delightful. It may remind you of yourself in a different time or someone who’s passed out of your life. For example, that image of a recipe for homemade boiled soap is from my grandmother’s ledger, something we cherish since she died.

In Brownies, we sang a song, “Make new friends and keep the old, One is silver and the other’s gold.”

Thanks for coming by to read, whether you are new or old, shiny or resonant. You’re welcome here.
